FACING WORLD
MOST ACUTE PROBLEM. Economic Collaboration Is Imperative. GERMANY HELPING JAPAN. United Press Association. —Copyright. . LOXDOX, July 19. The well-known economist, Sir George Paish, in a speech in Manchester, said that after several months' residence in Japan he was convinced Japan was acting in Tientsin, almost entirely under the direction of Germany, the incident reflecting Germany's world-wide campaign against Britain in order to confront her with the greatest possible difficulties.
Japan was facing acute economic problems, and her business men foresaw disaster if the war were unsuccessful in China, said Sir George. Worldwide economic collaboration was imperative. "We are within sight 0/ a complete breakdown of world trade, which :s absolutely inevitable unless international collaboration is undertaken," Sir (Jeorge continued. "Xearly 40 per cent of the world's spending power is based 011 borrowing. It is frightening to contemplate what will happen when borrowing is stopped. "Economic co-operation alone can save Europe from war and induce Japan to hold her hand in China."
