GLEN EDEN TOWN BOARD.
As the resignation of the chairman, Captain A. G. Hackett, was received prior to the meeting of the Glen Eden Town Board, Air. Ambler was voted to the chair.
The resignations of Messrs. Hackett and Hemming were received with regret. The clerk was instructed to write to them expressing the board's appreciation of their services to the ratepayers and the district.
The Auckland Hospital Board advised that the hospital levy for the current year has been assessed at £366 3/7, which represents an increase of £3 1/4 over last year's assessment.
The Commissioner of Transport submitted the Minister's order for apportionment of heavy traffic license fees for year ended May 31 last. The clerk stated that under this order the board's percentage ol the total collection in the heavy traffic license district had been reduced from .56 per cent to .4.5 per cent, but, owing to the rapid increase in license fees over the past few years, the receipts from the reduced percentage will be more than was received from the higher percentage in the year 1936-37.
Rates.—ln accordance with notice given at the previous meeting, rates were struck totalling 1/IV4 in the pound on the unimproved value, which is the same rate as for the year 1938-39. It was decided to offer a rebate of 2 J /4 per cent on payments made within 30 days from due date. Accounts totalling £1715 B'6 were passed for payment. The overdraft was stated at £1691 11/3.
Resignations. — The resignations of Messrs. Bond and Dorn were handed in at the meeting and were received with regret. These resignations create four vacancies and leave three members only on the board. A by-election to fiil the vacancies will take place on August 14.
