BEST PHYSIQUES.
SUGGESTED CONTEST.
-MM. AND MISS XKYV ZKALAND."
In connection with the forthcoming Centennial celebrations, Mr. W. N'nrman Kerr, well-known Auckland physical trainer, forwards the suggestion that there should be a contest to discover the most perfectly developed woman and jnost perfectly develo[>ed man in New Zealand.
Mr. Kerr s idea, which is approved bv all local physical culturists. is to get representatives of every sporting body. Army, Navy, Air Force, or any walk of life. There must lie many magnificent specimens working in the back-country, and such a contest would bring them forward and show the world the class of New Zealand manhood and womanhood. Contests of this nature have been held in Knglaiid, Kurope and America for many years, and the Centennial would afford an ideal time for their inauguration in New Zealand.
Ther« could be preliminary grading and judging, until the last hundred or so best physiques had Wen sorted out, ami a final grade of outstanding specimens of manhood and womanhood would make an inspiring sight that would help to stimulate.interest in physical culture. New Zealand should not Ih> backward in following the lead of Continental countries and America in developing physical manhood and womanhood to the utmost, and the discovery of "Miss Xew Zealand" and "Xew Zealand'* Perfect Man" should prove an excellent starting point for physical culture on a larger scale than before. The contest should be worked in conjunction with the effort in the direction of improved physical training that i« being made already.
