LACK OF A POUND.

INSPECTOR'S DIFFICULTY. STRAYING STOCK PROBLEM. It seems to me that the matter ot impounding straying stock presents some difficulty, especially dairy cattle, said Mr. F. H. Levien, 5.M., in the Papakura Police Court, when dealing with cases of this nature. There appeared to be no pounds between Pukekolie and Otahiihu, and this presents a difficulty where a ranger comes along and picks up some dairy cows which have to be milked in the evening. If the farmer ha<3 not got the money for the driving fees, he's bereft of his herd. There ought to be some intermediate position not so drastic. His Worship made the above remarks when hearing a straying stock charge concerning a Clevedon farmer, where a ranger would have to drive dairy cows found wanderinjr at large 22 miles to the nearest pound at Otahuhu.
