CHEER GERMS.
WHY A GLOOMY OUTLOOK? "LITTLE NEW ZEALANDERS." (By Telegrnph.—Porlinmontnry Rpporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. "We arc in danjrer of raisin# a brood of little New Zealanders," declared Mr. F. L. Frost (Government, New Plymonth), during his first speech in the House of Representatives last night. He devoted most of his attention to what he termed the • gloomy outlook of the Opposition. They reminded him of little Englanders, who thought that every country was better than their own, and they were rapidly qualifying for this title through their unpleasant habit of decrying their own country. Opposition Members: Nonsense. Mr. Frost asked when would the Opposition lose its depression complex? Their amendment showed that if they had searched the dictionary for words of woe they could not have done better. This was no new thing for a Tory party, for Tories always found things gloomy when they were not going as they wished. The Opposition was making itself sick with misgivings to injure the good name of New Zealand, Mr. Frost proceeded. He wanted to introduce a few cheer germs from Taranaki, because things were not really so bad. After presenting a mass of statistics bearing on the country's progress, Mr. Frost gave a glowing account of New Zealand as one of the best endowed countries in the world. Mr. W. J. Poison (National, Stratford) : God's own country, but the devil's own Government. (Laughter.)
