MOST SEVERE.
TASMAN STORMS. Worst Auckland-Sydney Trip Ever Experienced. AWATEA CAPTAIN'S OPINION. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. A severe storm is still raging over the Tasman. It is described by the State Meteorologist as one of the most severe and extensive for many years. .Wireless reports from vessels in the Tasman told of mountainous seas and winds of more than gale force. The Awatea, originally due at 8 a.m. to-day, is now not expected until 4 p.m.
Speaking by radio 'phone, Captain Davey said: "It is the worst crossing from Auckland to Sydney I have ever made and the longest the Awatea ha 3 made. The seas were terrific, spray breaking over the bridge, but we came through without a piece of broken glass. For the comfort of passengers the Awatea was slowed to 16J knots."
