ROYAL AKARANA CLUB.
PRESENTATION OF FRIZES. Coloured lights outside and flags and greenery inside gave the Royal Akarana Yacht clubhouse a very gay appearance on Saturday night, when the prizes won during the past Neason wore presented by Mr. W. B. Darlow, chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board. Over 300 visitor* and members attended ;ind wen- welcomed by the conini(i<liire, Mr. \V. f'urtis, aswiHteU by Mr. E. Edgciimtic, vice-commodore, and Mr. Harry Hill, rear-commodore. Mr. Curtis mentioned that the, club held races on nix days lust nea«on ; 150 boats look part, of which nuinher 7L> received prizes, the totiil value being £!£OO. The weather was unfavourable in the early part of the sea ho n, but made up for it l;iter. Their long distance race for the Bnlokovlc <'up was sailed in a very light breeae. some of the competitors being becalmed for 24 hours. A feature of the past Reason was the large number of keel yachts which competed, particularly in the cruising races. They were worry to lose the mooring area in Mechanics' Bay. but he felt sure a satisfactory substitute would be provided by the Harbour Board. Mr. \V. B. Darlow congratulated the officers and members of the club on the success of the pant xeaxon and wished tlirni a betier one in 1040. He said the array of cups and other trophies was a very fine one and. best of all, the racing had been carried out without one serious mishap. Mr. Darlow referred to the necessity of removing all moorings from Mechanics' Bay to make way for the growth ~f j n< , business of the port. The board was sorry to inconvenience yachtsmen and he hoped that they would have part of the new boat harbour off Okahu Bay ready by next season. The enp winners were: —Balokovic Cup, Messrs. Bradleyv< Tjiiomn : 14ft Champion Cup, Mr. J. McKinnon's Mania. Other prizewinners were : —Keel class : Kpmilph*, Kotiri. Ngahau, Aratnoana, Ghost (ladies' race), Owhanga.
