WAIROA-NAPIER ROUTES
CARRIERS MAY LOSE LICENSES. GISBORNE, this day. Road transport operators, whose route includes the Wairoa-Napier section on which they will be competing with the regular railway service as from Monday liext, were granted renewals of their licenses for 12 months only by the No. 1 Licensing Authority, Mr. E. J. Phelari. to-day. In view of the opening of the WairoaNapier railway service next week, formal objection to the road services operating along the route was entered by Mr. P. C. Fitzgerald, for the Railway Department, who, however, agreed that it would be harsh to shut down immediately. In renewing the licenses for a year Mr. P'nelan said some lorries competing with the railway might have to be taken ofT in the next few month* and the carriers should watch the position carefullv.
