H.WVERA, Wednesday. A crowd of 6000 saw the Wellington Rugby tonm defeat Taranaki by 14 points to 8 at Hawera this afternoon in the annual show week Hxture. Feature# of tn# tr;irrir were weak tackling by the Taranaki buiks ami snappy passing by the Wellington hark*. The first score was the result of a try hy Wriirlu after receiving the ball from Wnlry ;ind Tindill. Near the close of the first spell Meuli evened the scores with a in-unity jroal. Th+» second spoil opened with a niwh by Wellington, culminating in Vile scoring. Wellington ajrain scored when Thompson made an opening and Mc- < 'nrtliy toueht'd down. From then onwards Taranaki rallied and had the visitors penned in th«»ir own quarter, Smith scoring and Menli converting:. Included amonff the spectators were Mr. K. McKenzie, of Wnirnrapa. All Black sole selector. and Mr. F. W. Lucas, of Auckland, a North Island selector.
