Others prominent in the cast are Slim Summerville, Brian Donlevy Donald Meek, Henry Fonda and Randolph Scott. The story opens at the time when the railroads were first pushing out across the American prairies, cutting ruthleesly across the lands of the pioneers. James takes up a life of crime after the murder of his mother by a hireling of the railroad gang, and the plot follows his career up to the time of his d«ath.
