AUCKLAND V. UNIVERSITY.

The first of a series of three competitions between teams representing the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club and the Auckland University Atliletlc Club was held In the Domain on Saturday.

The contests were for A. B and C grade teams of eight men a side in a .'WOO, 40trt) ii nd 6000 yards steeplechase, The University ten me proved too good for their opponents, winning the A grade steeplechase with a score of 12 points to Auckland's 27. University also won the B grade with a score of 12 to Auckland's 31, and the C grade bv 15 points to Auckland's 24. The total points for the three contents were:—University, 30; Auckland 82. Results:—

A tirade (fIOOO yards).—Stephenson (V.) went out ahead early In the race, and was Joined by Ball (V.) on the third round. These two raced together on the fourth and fifth round, hut on the final Inn Stephenson drew ahead to win by flO yards from Ball, McKlnven (A.), McKensle (V.), Barker (V.). Harden (V.), Kvans (A.), French (A.), and Miithleson (A). Score: 'Varsity. 12: Auckland, 27 points. The winner's time was 22.50, with Baft 22.55. and McKlnven 221.0. B ("trade (4000 yards).—McLeod (A.) went Into the lead on the second lap, and stayed there to the finish. He Improved his lead on the third round from Collins (V.). and won by nearly 200 yards. Itesprlnger (V.), Oreen (V.), McCntcheon (V.), Lynda (V.), Woodhead (VJ. Dunn (A,), .T. F. Smith (A) were next. The score was: 'Varsity, 12: Auckland. 31. The Winner's time was 15.5.

C Grade (.inno yards).—Hugh 111 i\.) won by 75 yards from N. Stephenson (V>. Jones (V.), Hammond (A.». and Cutler (V.), with the. others close up. The score was: 'Varsity. 15; Auckland, 24. The winner's time was 11.35.
