A le! lor, signed by the Archbishop of York and 21) bishops, urges that July 0 I hserved throughout, the churches as a day of prayer for China. It says that since July, 10.17, 1,(100,00(1 Chinese have been killed and 00,00(1,000 made homeless, and are now refugees.
The let tor contains (lip text of h cablegram "I'rom ;m outstanding missionary" at present in Cliinn, which savs: "I witnessed the terrible bombings at Chungking, which was n deliberate and ruthless attempt to destroy, hnrn and terrorist. The civilian, cultural arid business area of the capital was laid waste with unimportant military results.
"The Chinese morale is unimpaired, but the suffering of the people is appalling. Hundreds were trapped in tire*. Hospitals all night long were receiving streams of wounded, and were without sutlieient light, water and medical supplies.
"Two crowded hospitals were destroyed and 100,000 people are homeless.''
