SECURITY BENEFITS.
In an article in Wednesdays "Star"' under the heading of "Sick Benefits'' von state that those who had sick pay funds "from which to draw did not obtain any benefits under tinSocial Security Act. I know of tramwaymen who have been otf sick and have claimed sick benefits under the Act, and after going through a maze of red tape have eventually been turned down. Tramwaymen pay in about £1"> yearly to the social security fund; they also pay a further £5 S/4 per year into their own friendly society, from which they can draw 2."./ weekly when off sick. It seems a- though the Government is capitalising on this small weekly sick pay by refusing the men their rights under the Act. Does" this mean (hat tramwaymen will have to abolish their own friendly society in order to qualify for the Govenuueht benefits? -MOTORMAN.
