Miss Dietrich Leaves Jewels With Revenue Agents.
INCOME TAXES NOT PAID
(Received 2 p.m.) X'EW YORK, June 14. Marlene Dietrich, the film actress, finally sailed for Europe to-day but only after delaying the Xorniandie for 40 minutes and posting her jewellery, valued at 100,000 dollars with revenue agents, who refused to permit her sailing, claiming that she owed 284,000 dollars in back income taxes.
Miss Dietrich burst into tears during an interview, but finally dug out her jewellery from a trunk, dissolving the impasse, much to the relief of an associate of Mr. Justice Frankfurter of the Supreme Court. Countess Haugwitz Reventlow (Mi>s Barbara Hutton) and Mr. J. P. Morgan's sister. Anne, who were also sailing, fretted at the delay. Revenue agents contended that MisDietrich owed taxes due oil a picture made in England for the Iseleman ( «>rporation in 1930-37 and threatened to confiscate her luggage.
