DE FRIEND GOES WELL.
RIFF RAFF'S SMART HALFMILE.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. A smart half mile bv the improving Rift Rati" and a solid six furlongs by De Friend were features of this morning's programme at Te Rapa when the going 011 No. 1 grass, which was in use, was cutting out. Several horses were schooled over hurdles and a section of the country. Raceline (Thomson) and Mio Generaie (Melnally) were associated over four furlongs in 52 3-ss, their first three in 38^a. Raceline, who is bearing an improved appearance, is not without prospects at the Bay of i'lentv meeting. The best half of the morning was that of the maiden Rift Raff (Hain), who was clear of Midland iDay) over the deciding stuges of the trial traversed in 51 'is. Riff Raff has been shaping well 011 the tracks of late and his prospects in the Novice Handicap at Tainanga appear blight. Master Brierly (McKenzie) was doing better than Dark Hose (Bartle) over a round in '2.0V6. the first half mile in 54 2-ss. Maori Song (Winder), who looks none the worse for recent exertions, worked solidly over a round, running his first five furlonas in 1.8 1-5. Car Leaf iMcKenzie) and .Jewelled (iirdle (M-clnally) were companions over four furlongs in 535. Both are in forward condition for racing at Tauranga. I)e Friend (Thomson I was doing better than Dll Maurier (Long), with Race Camp (Mclnally) several lengths a way. at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.10 4-5. It was a useful trial on the part of both De Friend and Dti Manlier, who should show to advantage at Tauranga. Iskra (Jones) and Silver Sound 1 1- erguson) ran to the five furlongs in 1.9 4-5. The Jumpers. Rothoon (Amundsen) shaped encouragingly over two hurdles. Hunting Blood (Watsonl and Your.? Padd 011 (Sharkey) were separately schooled over the pony fences, the former having to persevered with before he would negotiate the obstacles. Torch I Winder) and Oaine's Choice gave a good display over four hurdles. Little Briton (Sharkey) and Biitish Sovereign handled two brush fences of the steeplechase course in good style, the latter being inclined to jump rather extravagantly at the second. N. Watson Tia« been engaged to ride Rebel King at Tauranga.
