S.M.. iii the Police Court this morning when John McCatiley. :i 2((-year-ol<l Glasgow Scot. nppeai'Ml for i*enten<-e on a charge of de.-ertin<r from the steamer Trojan Star at Xew Plymouth on May 13. When McCaulcy firtit appeared before the Court on Tuesday he said he wanted to settle in the Dominion. Sergeant .Tones said that the agents for the whip did not want MeCaiiley back. When the magistrate commented that surely the police did not suggest that the man should be allowed to remain in Xew Zealand. Sergeant .Tones replied that nothing wa<= known against him. "How long ha* he been in custody ?'" asked Mr. Woodward when the case wa* called ajrain to-day. "■.Seven days,"' replied the seniorsergeant. Mr. Woodward then aeked McCauley if he had any money to support himself. "I have people looking after me," replied Mr. McCauley. "But you have no money?" asked the magistrate. McCauley: They give me all the money I want. Mr. Woodward then convicted and discharged the prisoner. "•
