WALK OFF-SIDE.
Referring to the article by "J.C." on l*edestrians on roads I shall I>e glad if you will allow me space to point out to him that lie is entirely wrong in saying that pedestrians on an open roadway should walk on the left side. The juries in the Supreme Court at "Wanganui and the magistrates he refers to were quite right in stating that pedestrians should walk on the right side. Evidently the opinions were expressed as the result of aecidents that had happened to persons who had !>een foolish eiion rh to walk on the left side. I have tried both sides and I know which i* the safer. "Walking on the right side, you have the danger in front of you and you can avoid it. By walking on the left side you have the danger at the back of you. and it i> all very well to say the motorist should avoid you. but it is no use arguing- the point after he has run you down. Father Peter would probably not be kept so busy if pedestrians would keep to the right eide. JUNIUS JUN.
