Customs Department at Dtinedin during May shown an increase of £lo.!»."io, compared with the figures for May last year. the respective totals being £147.1i2."» and £13«i,<>75. The only drop whs in beer duty, which, at £27,282, showed a decline of alwnit £160<l. Customs duty itself increased from £<>3,440 in May. 1038, to £70.8T>9 last month. The increase over the figures for April this year is about £20.000. Sales tax, petrol tax, tyre and gold duties also show slight increases. The comparative figure-i are as follows: —Customs: May, lfl."M), £70,850; May, 1!>38, £63,446." Beer: £27,282; ! £28,808. Sales tax: £26,863; £24.!>3ti. Petrol: £17.832; £15,906. Gold duty: £179O; £1070.
