CITY'S WATER SUPPLY.
Major proposals involving the borrowing of £225,000 for waterworks improvement have been framed by the city and waterworks engineers -and are to come before the City Council to-morrow. The largest single proposal is that to increase by 25 per cent the city's reservoir capacity and to provide «xtra storage at Titirangi and other points, at a total cost of £80,000. Second comes a proposed expenditure of £71,720 on the construction of new feeder . mains. The necessity for this work was of course bound to arise in the course of the ordinary development of the city. It is for the City Council to decide whether and how much of the expenditure is needed and justified at this time, hearing in mind the fact that in ItCIH-liO interest and exchange costs on existing loans (apart from payments to sinking funds) required approximately £400,00(1. The other important proposal is concerned with safeguarding the existing source of supply in the Waitakeres and the future source in the Hunuas. This source-protection policy is of course V9?n!r tal ' nntl the expenditure of i -0,000 now proposed may, as the engineers contend, obviate „ very much greater expenditure in the future.
