IMPORT REGULATIONS.
VALIDATING LEGISLATION.
REPLY TO PRIME MINISTER
"There have been m> previous cases in recent years where regulations issued by the Executive Council of the (ioveinment have proved invalid in the Courts." said Mr. W. A. Boucher, president of the Bureau of Importers. Auckland, to-day, in replying to the statement of the Prime Minister, the Kt. Hon. M. .1. Savage, that legislation was introduced during every session of Parliament to amend laws which had been found defective. Mr. Boucher stated that the position created by the judgment of Mr. -Tustice Callan. declaring invalid the import control regulations, had no previous parallel, and that the Prime Minister, in his statement, had entirely evaded the issue raised by Auckland importers in the resolution carried last Friday, in which they demanded the right to import yoods without license. Referring to the last Finance Act, Mr. Boucher said there were no instances in this legislation where regulations of the Executive Council held invalid had been validated by Purlin"•ent.
