NEW METROPOLE CABARET.
SAMMY LEE'S AMERICANADIANS
American "swing" in its breeziest interpretation animated the dancers at the New Metropole Cabaret on Saturday evening, when Sammy Lee, widely known band leader, introduced his Americanadians, and demonstrated the meaning of "pep and punch" allied to ewing and rhythm.
Mr. Lee's ultra ideas in musical entertainment synchronising with dance
items, also captured the attention of those present, and advance numbers indicated the up-to-dateness of the repertoire. The Americaaadians and their leader are not only expert instrumentalists but showmen, too, as was evidenced by their spirited playing of the "Cuban Rumba," which evoked hearty enthusiasm from the dancers A Scotch dialect novelty, "Macpherson is Rehearsin' to Swing," by Bob Reid, and song and action concerted specialties indicated the band's versatility and skill in expressing varied rhythmic measures. Miss Joy Rovelle, attractive young vocalist with the band, shared in the general success of the entertainment with her happy rendering of the latest show song hits.
The epecialised lighting of the dais, with spotlights on the individual performers, added an exclusive note to the artistic band setting, and emphasised the enterprise of Mr. Lee in providing "something different."
Among those present were: Mesdames A. O. D. Boddington, T. Clarke, Lyndsay Gtould, Frank Fenwick, Johneton, Augus Stewart, Noel Paterson, D. Cooper, A. E. Neville, Barker, Misees Shirley Adams, Pat Kidd, Valmai Mens, Maureen and June Patterson, Ann Hill, Olive McDonald, Wilma Wilton, Gwen Lovie, A. Hedgeman, D. White.
