TEMPERANCE COUNCIL.
ANNUAL MEETING TO-NIGHT. Reference to the activities of the Council of Temperance Education is contained in the report which ie to be presented at the annual meeting of the council to-night. It is pointed wit that within two years of the founding of Auckland a Total Abstinence Society wae formed and it was etill in existence. The work then started was being carried on under the direction of the council, which worked in conjunction with other temperance organisatione and directed its attention especially to informing youn" , people. During the' paet year temperance posters had been supplied to over 750 schools and colleges, while booklets had been supplied to young organisations. Bande of Hope and Sunday Schools had been vieited and aeeisted with temperance material. A banner and gold and silver medals had been presented to the Girls' Life Brigade for annual competition. Other educational activities had also been undertaken. As a result of the generosity of a supporter, a subetan<tial trust fund for temperance educational work had been established, and the council had been registered as an incorporated society.
At to-night's meeting an address will be delivered by the Rev. Dr. R. C. Gillie on "Temperance Work in Great Britain."
