ONE FATAL.

WEEK-END MISHAPS. NUMEROUS CASUALTIES. MORE INJURED AT FOOTBALL. One fatal road accident occurred in the Dominion 'during the week-end, a young man being killed when lie fell from a moving car near Fahintna. There were numerous other road mishaps in Auckland and the rest of New Zealand. including several violent ear, collisions, and a number of persons were seriously hurt. A feature of the accident* was the number of lucky escapes from serioius injuries experienced by persons involved. Head injuries from which he died in the l'ahintua Hospital were suffered by Donald llcDougall. aged 19. of Mangatainoka, when lie fell from a moving tar while returning to Falriatua from Eketalllilia after playing football on Saturday, says a Press Association message from Palmerston Xorth. The car was driven by the brother of the deceased. Mr. \lcDougall saw flames coming from a box of football gear. He called to the driver to stop, and the car was blowing down when deceased stepped on to the running-board and fell, striking his bead Oil the load. He died without regaining consciousness.

CABS IN COLLISION.

Four persons were injured -when two motor cars came into violent collision on a bend of the main north road near Waitati, 17 miles north of Dunedin, on Saturday afternoon, says a Press Association message from Dunedin. The injured were:— Mr. Archibald Sneddon, of Maori Hill, Dunedin; fractured ribs, abrasions to head and hands. Miss Jean ."Sneddon, daughter of Mr. A. Sneddon; severe head injuries and abrasions to face and leg; condition fairly serious. Mr. William J. Herron, Ryan Street, Christchurch; injuries to left foot. Mrs. W. J. Herron; injuries to head and leg. The care collided at a sharp bend near the Waitati School. The Christchurch car Mas travelling to Mataura. All the injured were taken to hospital. When a car driven by Mr. Edward Clark, of 114, Valley Road, Mount Eden, came into collision with two cars travelling in the opposite direction, Mr. Clark's sister, Mrs. Agnes Hollev, widow, aged 33, of Ngauruhoe Street, Mount Eden, suffered concussion, facial injuries and an injured elbow. She was taken to the Auckland .Hospital in a St. John ambulance. Her condition is fair. While attention was being given to this accident, a service car, driven by i Mr. William Nelson, of Huajmi, came into collision with the back of a stationary parked car. Several of the passengers suffered shock and minor injuries. The heavy traffic on the road at . the time was seriously disorganised until the cars were removed.

MOTOR CYCUST HURT.

When the motor cycle he wae riding struck a silent policeman at the section of Tnmaki Drive and Gladstone Hoad, Parnoll. last evening, }Jr J Locke, a clerk, 31, single of 9 Winchester Street. Xewton, suffered' concussion and a fractured collar-bone A pillion rider, Mr. ,T. Langdon. a<*ed 27 of 77, Keiliana Street, Orakei, suffered ! shock. Both men were taken to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John Ambulance. Mr. Locke wae admitted, lint Mr. Lanjrdon was discharged. Mr. Locke's condition is fair.

BURNT BY TAT.

Mr. Homy Kilmond Blomfield, a"e<l 27, sinple. of 40, Bannerman Road, Morningeide, who was spending the week-end at Surfdale, Waiheke, suffered burns to both his hands when removing a roast of meat from the oven. He received attention from a St. John Ambulance officer. He later received attention at the Auckland Hospital.

FRACTURED THIGH.

Donald Fleetwood Wilson, aped two years six months, son of Mr. and Mr* Kdwin J. Wilson, of 4. Green Street. Ponsonby, suffered a fracture of his left thijrh when Ire fell from a conch at his home last nifrht. He wae admitted to the Auckland Hospital, and is pro"TC6sinpr favourably. °

WT.iraTtgtiH.B ESCAPE. A fortunate escape from injury was experienced by Mr. W. A. King when, the car he was driving along the Clevedon Road left- the road on a sharp bend and crashed into a telegraph pole, bringing down the twenty wires 'which connected the Ardinore district to the Papakura exchange. The car struck the pole head on, and the engine, which v.as nearly wrecked, was pushed back several inches into the body work. Three, passengers in the car escaped practically uninjured.

FOOTBALL CASUALTIES.

A fractured arm was suffered by the Rev. L. A. D. Hayman, one of the four three-quarters selected to train for inclusion in tbe Waikato representative team to meet Auckland on June 5, na result of a fall while playing for Taupiri in a Rugby football game at Taupiri on Saturday. He was admitted to the Waikato Hospital. A former New Zealand University player and Canterbury representative. Mr. Hayman is a clergyman of the Methodist Church and lives at Taupiri.

Football accidents also resulted in injuries to: George Bartlett. aged 21, a farmhand, of Feneourt, dislocation of the thumb: Donald Edmond, aged 22, a motor dealer, of Hillerest, concussion; Alexander Dunn, aped 32, Te Awamutu, fractured cheek-bone. A fractured arm wae also suffered by a spectator at Rugby Park. Hamilton, Mr. John Laweon Leslie, ased 34, of Hague .Street, Frankton, a<s result of a fall. None of the ii Jnred men ie in a serious condition. As a result of injuries received while playing in local matches on Saturday afternoon several player* were injured and were taken to "the hospital for treatment. While playing third grade for Newmarket at Victoria Park, Colin Henry Donald, aged 17, of C, Railway Street, Newmarket, was taken to hoepital suffering from concur ion. Mervyn Albert Andrew Williams, an apprentice aged 18, of 46, Great North Road, New Lynn, suffered an injury to the right leg when he was playing for fourth grade Suburbs at Western Springs. Hβ wae admitted to the hospital.

CAB BADLY DAMAGED.

Extensive damage was done to a modern five-seater sedan car yesterday, when it came into violent collision with, a service car at Stony Creek, about 50 miles from Taupo, on the way to Napier. Mr. S. Laing, of Wellington, was driving the private car in the direction of Taupo. Head injuries were differed by a passenger in the service car, Mr. C. J. Stace, of Wellington, and he received medical attention from Dr. J. S. Armstrong, of Taupo. The other two passengers were uninjured. Mr. Laing, who was alone in the car, was not hurt, but damage to his car was so extensive that he had to leave it and travel in the service car to Tanpo.

'• " I SLIGHT CONCUSSION.

Aβ the result of a motor car collision at Warkworth on Saturday, Mr. William Henry Barron. aged 32, married, of Pulham Road, Warkworth, Buffered slight concussion and a fracture of the kneecap. The collision occurred near the Wellsford School, and the other was car. owned by Mr. S. Long, garage proprietor, of Wellsford. Both vehicle* were badly damaged. Mr. Barron was admitted to the Auckland Hospital after receiving local attention. His condition is fair.

MAORI'S lUCKT ESCAPE.

A remarkable escape from injury was >,\d by a Maori, John Paku Haenga, of AVhakatn. near Napier, on Saturday nijaht, whon the sedan car he wag driving was involved in a spectacular collision with a heavy bus on the Napier-Hastings road. The vehicles collided when the car had passed another vehicle travelling in the same direction, and was faced by the bus, which had just rounded « bend in a narrow portion of the road. Striking the ripht hand front of the bus, the car ripped down the eide of the heavy vehicle, tore through the panelling and smashed the wind-screen. After continuing for some distance down the road, the car ewerved to the right and crashed through a steel and concrete fence which borders the road, plunged down a bank, and stopped with the front wheels only a few feet from a creek edge.

FALL FROM TRAM. '

When Mr. W. Gollan, aged 64, farmer, of Mountain Road, Panmure, fell from a tramcar at Three Kings on Saturday evening, he suffered concussion and lacerations to hie scalp. He was taken to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance. His condition ie fairly serious.
