WELLINGTON, Tuesday
At the annual meetyig of the council of the Royal Society in Wellington today Dr. J. E. Ho'lloway, lecturer in botany at the University*of Otago, was elected president.
In nominating him for the position, the retiring president, Professor W. P. Evans, of Wellington, said Dr. Holloway in his published studies of filmyferns of New Zealand had rendered service of outstanding value to botanical science, but even more outstanding was the work he had done with regard to the life history of lycopods and other pteridiphytee represented in New Zealand.
"It can be said safely that few workers the world over have done more to advance scientific knowledge concerning these plants," Professor Evans said. "It is not in New Zealand only that recognition of his work by the Royal Society of London has given complete satisfaction."
