NGAWIRI AT LONG ODDS.
HURDLES GO TO ROYAL DANCE.
A. dividend of well over three score was a sensational opening to the second day of the Waikato Racing Club's meeting at Te Rapa to-day. In a. field of 22 the little-fancied Ngawiri, trained by A. C. Jones, and ridden by the apprentice, G. Smith, jumped out well in the Gordonton Handicap and" led all the way to just last long enough to win by a head. The consistent Royal Dance returned double figures on the win machine in the Hamilton Hurdles, but a better price was handled by backers of Maori Song in the Te Rapa Handicap when he paid a quarter of a century. The track was holding, but the weather, though fine, was dull.
