MAORI SENT TO GAOL.

(li.v Telcgranh.—Press Association.) TAIHAPE, this day. Pleading guilty to a charge of being drunk while in charge of a car yesterday. I'ineki Simon, a Maori (4ti). of Halcombc. appeared before Messrs. H. Johnston and E. Loader. J.P.'s, in the Tailiape Magistrate's Court this morning. Ho was sentenced to J4 days' impri<sonment in Wanganui Gaol. Tho police stated accused had collided with another car. Defendant had had at least four bottles of beer in his car and had thrown them away after the accident. Accused's license was cancelled for two years.
