ASSOCIATE PROFESSORS

BOTANY AND ZOOLOGY HEADS.

A decision to to the statue of associate professors the heads of the departments of botany and zoology Messrs. T. L. Lancaster and W R McGregor, at the Auckland University College was made by the college council yesterday afternoon.

The council expressed appreciation of the services to the college of both heade of departments and made increases of £50 in salary.

A resolution moved by the chairman, Mr. N. H. Cocker, that the council congratulate Messrs. Lancaster and McGregor on their advancement in status was carried. The chairman said attempt* had ibeen made to involve the council in newspaper correspondence on ♦he matter, but the council had taken the view that it was not a subject for newspaper discussion.

Opposition to changes of status without ( going through the usual procedure of calling for applications, where appointments to professorial or semiprofessorial positions were under consideration, was expressed by Mr. A. K. Turner. He said an important principle of procedure was involved.
