OVERSEAS APPLICATIONS.

SUCCESSOR TO PROF. S. E

To fill the position of professor of engineering at the Auckland University College, following the retirement at the end of this year of Professor S. E. La in t>, on reaching the retiring age, the College Council decided yesterday afternoon to call for applications in Xew Zealand, Australia, England, Canada and South Africa.

The salary to be offered is £1000. Special emphasis will be attached to the qualifications of the applicants in civil or mechanical engineering and to their knowledge of aeronautical engineering. A general indication of the council's proposals for the development ef the school will be given for the information of intending applicants.

Professor Lamb has been a member of the University College staff for 32 years. He commenced his career in mechanical engineering at the Devonport dockyard, Plymouth, and later studied at the Royal College of Science, London, graduating B.Sc. with honours at London University. For seven years he was head of the engineering department of the Portsmouth Technical College, and in 1907 he was appointed lecturer in engineering at the Auckland University College School of Mines. When the school of mines was closed five yeare later he became head of the engineering department. He was appointed professor in 1927.
