(From Our Correspondent.)
ASHBURTON, Monday
The prompt action of the guard of the Christchurch-Timaru excursion train saved a passenger from being dragged' under the train at the Ashburton station last evening.
Attempting to board the train after it • had started the passenger, with a suitcase under his arm, was pulled off !his feet and fell against the side of a carriage. He was rolled and was partially dragged along the platform for some yards, and it was only the presence of mind of the guard that saved him from serious injury.
Seeing the man'.* plight the guard applied the emergency brake and jumped off the train. He catight the passenger by the leg and pulled him away from the moving carriage. The passenger escaped with, a severe shaking and torn clothing.
