LOCK DEFIES THIEF.

ATTEMPT ON STRONG-ROOM.

DAMAGE BY EXPLOSIVES

(From Our Correspondent.)

HAMILTON, Sunday,

Extensive damage was done by explosives used in an unsuccessful attempt to open the strong-room of the Waikato Countv Council's offices, in Grey Street, Hamilton, early yesterday morning. Entry to the premises was gained by forcing a back window. A large charge of explosive was apparently used on the strong-room door, for* the windows of the office were smashed and pieces of metal were found protruding from articles of furniture into which they had been forced by the explosion. • The strong-room door was badly damaged, but the mechanism of the lock I held. Nothing of value was stolen.
