CITY HOSPITALITY.
FRENCH NAVAL VISITORS. WEEK-END ENTERTAINMENTS. 1 Officers and men of the visiting French sloop Dumont d'Urville wore provided with varied entertainment during the week-end. On Saturday night Capitaine de fregate M. Araur and his officers were the guests of the Auckland Orphans' Club, when they were accompanied by Mr. G. W. Hutchison, consular agent for France. The Mayor. Sir Ernest Davis, and the the Mayoress, Lady Davis, gave an official dinner to Capitaine de fregate Arzur last night.
Petty officers .and men took part in a fencing and sword contest at the Seamen's Institute on Saturday night, and there was an extensive programme arranged for yesterday. The Catholic Institute took :!0 petty officers and men for a motor drive, while similar entertainment was given six others by the Overseas League and six by t'he Mercantile Auxiliary Club. The Catholic Institute invited the ship's, company to n concert last evening, and motion pictures of New Zealand were shown to them at the Seamen's Institute.
