CAR DRIVERS' FATE.

With two companions he was return- i ing in a car from a football match at t Fail-lie. when the vehicle, which Mr. Br<snahnn was driving, ran into a car which was pulled up on the roadside. Mr. Brosuahan was thrown heavily against the steering wheel, suiioring severe injuries to the chest, and he died before medical aid arrived. His companions suffered only minor injuries. The driver of the stationary car. Mr. John Cresswell Harrison, of Winchester, was knocked over by the impact, but escaped with minor injuries. ONE DEAD—TWO INJURED. One man was killed and two others were injured when a car left the Pahau-tanui-Haywards Road about 10 o'clock last evening, about a mile rrom l'ahautanui, says a Press Association message from Wellington. The victims- were:— Killed: Mr. Peter Irnley Frederick Saunders, aged 20. accountant, of Grand Road, Wellington, son of Mr. Imlay Saunders, of Wanganui. Injuria '. Mr. Jack Shelly, of Wellington, company manager and owner of the car, condition not serious. Mr. Sidney Archibald Wiren, solicitor, Wellington, condition not serious. The party is thought to have been returning from Wanganuj. The car was completely wrecked. It is understood that Mr. Wiren was driving. Mr. Saunders was employed by a public accountant in Wellington and received his public acountant's certificate only last week. He was a wellknown member of the Star Boating Cluib and the Hutt Golf Club. PLATTERS IN HOSPITAL. FOOTBALL MISHAPS. Several football accidents on Saturday resulted in some players being taken to hospital. A few were treated in the casualty department and then discharged. Only one victim is in a serious condition. Harold Owen William Bennet, aged 23, of 21, Eltham Avenue, Kohimarama, suffered several fractured ribs while playing for Eden against College Rifle*. G. Littlejohn, of Mount Albert, suffered concussion while playing for the Manukau Rugby senior team against North Shore. He was removed to hospital.

David Ravell, aged 20, of 5, Pitt Street, City, suffered internal injuries and was r moved to hospital, while John Joseph Hanvey, of the Artillery Barracks, Narrow Neck, suffered a fractured leg.

Three Whangarei players were also injured on Saturday at Whangarei. They were:—George Potter, of Waiptl, injuries to the back and pelvis; Neil Connaghan, concussion; and Douglas North, of Horahora, concussion. North is still in a fairly serious condition.

A message from Huntly states that, while playing in a League football match between Huntly District and City Rovers (Auckland) at Davies Park.'Huntly, during the week-end, William Ruston, of Huntly, suffered a fractured knee-cap. The accident occurred about four minutes before the final whistle blew. Kuston »had been playing a pood game, having scored two tries earlier in the match. He was attended by members of the St. John Ambulance and conveyed to the Waikato Hospital. YOUNG GIRL HURT. Struck by the rear mudguard of a taxi as she was running across the road just outside the Auckland Hospital at approximately 3.50 p.m. yesterday, a four-year-old girl, Kathleen Murphy, lives at I~>A. Kendall Place, Eden Terrace, suffered lacerations of her left leg. She was admitted to hospital, where her condition is considered satisfactory. CARS COLLIDE. When the motor car in which he was a passenger collided with another car) at the corner of Esplanade and View) Roads, Mount Eden, yesterday afternoon, Mr. Alexander Cornelious Steele. Mount Eden, suffered abrasions and shock and was re-' moved to a private hospital in a St. 1 John ambulance. j Driven by a relative, the ear in which i Mr. Steele was a passenger was travel-' ling along Esplanade Road towards the city. The other car was proceeding along View Road. The force of the impact caused the first car to turn over on to its roof. Neither car was damaged extensively. Mr. Steele's condition is not serious. Waddington, of Rotorua. who was injured when the taxi he was driving left the road and fell down a 100 ft bank while proceeding from Rotorua toward Tanpn on Friday afternoon, is very serious. She was later admitted to the > Auckland Hospital, where her condition is considered satfefftefeoxy.

FALL FROM 'WINDOW. Internal injuries -were suffered-by MrJ William Smith, a guest at a private hotel in the city, when he fell from a first-floor window of the hotel at about midnight on Saturday. Mr. Smith, who is an overseer for the Housing Construction Department, lives at Whangarei. A St. John ambulance took him to the Auckland Hospital»and*his condition is serious. MOTOR CYCLISTS HURT. When the motor cycle on which they were travelling came into collision with a car on a bend on the Napier-Taradale road at 7.1-"> p.m. on Saturday night, a man and his wife were thrown off and injured, say* a Press Association message from Hastings. They were Mr. John Murtagh, aged 26. of Hastings, who received concussion, head injuries and a fractured arm, and Mrs. Henriette Murtagh, who suffered concussion, lacerations and shock. Mr. Murtagh was admitted to the Napier Hospital. OAR AND TRUCK COLLIDE. Chest injuries and lirnises on the right arm were sustained by Mr. 'Robert Oeorge Miller, of Wellington, when ilie car lie was driving came into collision with a motor truck driven by Mr. T . F. Voting, of Levin, about 0.30 on Saturday night, says a Pre»s Association message from Levin. The accident happened on a straight stretch of the main highway, four miles north of Levin. The right side of the car was torn completely out with the impact, and the car then ran down a bank, coming to rest when it collided head-on with a willow- tree.

Throe passengers in the car escaped injury. Mr. Miller was sent to hospital in Fa 1 m erst on Xorth. His condition to-day is satisfactory.

An extraordinary accident, in which three machines were involved, occurred at Cameron Road on Saturday. Mr. W. Murray was driving from Tauranga, and a car driven by Mr. C. Richardson was travelling in the oppo--ite direction. Murray K. Ford, a was riding a cycle, with football boots swung across the handlebars. The boots slipped between the front wheel and the .frame, causing the inachiiie to swerve to the centre of fhe road. To avoid a collision Mr. Murray swung and collided with Mr. Richardson, who suffered head injuries.

Both cars were damaged, but the boy was unhurt. The football gear which was the cause of the accident disappeared in the excitement.
