SHOWMEN'S APPLICATION.

Art Collect ions.—The recommendation Of the library committee that aproval l>e given the proposal of the Auckland Institute and Mu«cum that a joint application from Xew Zealand galleries and mu«eunw should be made to the Carnegie Corporation of New York for the services of an ex[K-rt to advise upon the applied art collection* in the various museums and galleries of the Dominion, and of the policy to be adopted with regard to developing applied art collcctionx, was adopted.
Avombile Rest Room.—A request by (lie Avomlale branch of the Plunket Society that consideration be given to the erection of a Plunket and rent r<H)m in the central part of Avondale was referred to tlie linanc-e committeu for a report.
Cremation Fees.—A sliding wale of fees to provide for the cremation of infants and children was adopted at the suggestion of the Auckland Provincial funeral Director*' Association. The fee* will range from £| \/ j M t i le Pa-e of infants under one year of ag<- to £4 4/ in tlie case of children VI years of age ami over. On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, however, the fees will be Mubject to a general increase of £i ]/, Amiueiiiciit Park (Kl'cr.--Their readineee to gi\c the council free of the amusement park on tlie Civic Square, at any time other than Friday and Saturday nights, for the benefit of a charitable organisation, wan communicated by Messrs. Bowler and Sullivan. The letter was received and the council decided to thank them for their generoiu offer. Sailors' Home Donation.—On the recommendation of the finance committee, it wu decided to donate £."> .">/ to the fund* of the Auckland Sailors' Home.
War on Rate.—ln connection with the campaign against rat* during the week beginning on June 12. it waa decided to authorise the purchase of mifHcient poison for froe distribution in the cityend also for distribution at co*t price to metropolitan local authorities requiring Mtipplics. This is in line with a decision of the special "rat week" It Iβ expected that about £100 wil.Tilso be spent in propaganda dealing with rat destruction nnd the council will be a*ked to bear half this cost.
