TRANSPORT BOARD POLL ATTITUDE OP LABOUR. Because allegedly some electors were not allowed t<. vote at the recent Auckland Transport Board election it hae been »tigge»ted that there is a powiibillty of the Auckland branch of the N'ew Zealand Labour party taking step.* to npeet the election. Questioned concerning the matter this morning, however, the president of the branch, Mr. .T. Snycgh. declared that no official action had been taken by the party, nor was it contemplated. Nevertheless, there had been a number of complaint* lodged that elector* were not permitted to vote at the poll on the Wednesday before last. There were instance* quoted of intending voters being supplied with their roll number* outside the booths, from rolls ueed at the last municipal election*, and on going inside to vote being informed that their narnee had been struck off the official list of voters. In many caeee voter* who had found themselves in this predicament had demanded that they be given the opportunity of making declaration vote*.
. Inquiries made in other Labour circle* indicated thnt any effort by the party to the election wan unlikely, as it whs felt that there was a good pro*pect of Lnixnir eiiptlirillg a further s<?at. It whs mirier tno'l. it wiih explained, thnt jnetnnetv, (if plura! voting had pome to Hjfht during tlio checking of the rolls. People in Labour circles also considered that the bigger percentage of declaration votes -would favour Labour candidate*. Consequently the reeiilt of the recount was being awaited with •qwu&mity aad oonfideaee.
