CENTENNIAL MEMORIAL.
The sub-committee appointed to consider the proposals for Auckland's centennial memorial has done a valuable service by reducing the number of projects to two. Because the full number and nature of projf<'f.M hnvo never been made known, officially, to the public it is not possible to form any decided opinion as to thp merits of those rejected. It has all along been clenr, however, that the Waitakerc park project must on its merits prain a place among the projects for final selection, and now, it appears, the choice is between it and a " physical culture centre." As the merits of the latter hnvo not been expounded to the public it will lie fair to reserve judgment meanwhile. Hut it should be said now that !i centre of tlm character proposed ciin he e-:. 'li-licd nt niiy tune in the futiuv, |iio\ 'del ft.' i.'"iiiiiiuni.y desires it strongly. Of the park project the contrary is true.
