TRANSPORT BOARD.
KEEN INTEREST IN ELECTION.
TWENTY-FOUR CANDIDATES.
Keen inter«wt is beinjr ebown in the Auckland Transport Board election, which will l>e held to-morrow. m There are 24 candidates offering for ,the 10 seats, and both the Auckland Citizens' and Ratepayers' Association and the Laliour party have nominated full "tickets." There are, in addition, four independent candidate*!.
The chairman of the board, the Hon. H. (J. R. Mason, the Hon. F. E. Lark, and Merwrs. W. T. Anderton, M.P., and E. J. Phelan, are not eeeking re-election, and Mr. J. Sayegh is the only sitting Labour member for the city area who has been re-nominated. The Citizens' ticket for the city area includes Mr. J. A. C. Allum, a sitting member and the previous chairman of the board.
Two sitting members, Messrs. H. A. Anderson and W. H. Xagle, are on the Citizens' ticket for the No. 2 constituency, and they will also have the official support of the Mount Eden.Ratepayers' and Householders' Association. Other candidates for the Xo. 2 constituency are Mr. K. H. Potter, a former member of the board, and the Labour candidates, Messrs. C. J. Matthew and G. J. Pickene.
In the Xo. 3 constituency, the two sitting Labour members, Messrs. L. C. MeOlintiK'k and J- S. Montgomerie, are again seeking re-election, and the Citizens' candidates are Mesere. E. V. Sutherland and Captain A. J. Pearce.
Polling Hours. Polling hours will be between the hoiire of !) a.m. and 7 p.m., and a staff of nearly 420 will be needed to handle the work at the 80 booths in the board's area.
The chief returning officer, Mr. C. R. Cribble, pointed out this morning that an elector would be entitled to only one vote in the whole transport district, even though his name might be on the roll of two or more local authorities. Deputy returning officers had been instructed to ask all voters if they had already voted.
Preparations have been made for a heavy poll, and after the closing of the booths all returns will be sent in to the chief returning officer's headquarters at the Auckland Transport Board office.
