GRAFTON GtTIXY LAND. An echo of the Government's proposal, which has now lieen abandoned, to erect a block of flats on property in Beckham Place and Ligar Place, Grafton Gully, was heard at last night's, meeting of the Auckland City Council, when the finance committee recommended that the propert v should be acquired for the sum of £3162 10/. The council some time ago declined the Government's application, and decided to negotiate for the acquisition of I lie property. Adjacent ratepayers and residents offered to contribute £o»0 to prevent the pro|>erty being "built on in the way the Government proposed, and the linance committee made the contribution of this sum a condition of the, purchase. '
