CYCLISTS, BEWARE!
ENFORCEMENT CAMPAIGN.
RIDING WITHOUT LIGHTS. / (By Telegraph.—rress Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. An enforcement campaign against cyclists riding at night without lights or proper rear reflectors will be commenced on Monday week, according to a Ministerial announcement.. A circular has been sent to all enforcement authorities, and it is hoped to make the drive the most efficient ever organised in the Dominion. It is instituted purely in the interests of the cyclists themselves, and is based upon experience during the late autumn last year. It is pointed out that in 6nmmer the densest traffic is in daylight hours, but with the shortening of the days the after-daylight risk increases, also that during the early winter, frosts and rain decrease stopping distances and reduce visibility, allowance for which is not made by road users. The cycle represents the slowest type of vehicle, and consequently is being constantly overtaken, hence the stress laid upon the need for effective rear lights or mirrors.
