PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE.

NORTHCOTE ACTIVITIES.

REPORTS OF COMMITTEES

Arrangements were made at the monthly meeting of the Northcote Women's Progressive League for the annual poppy day appeal. The secretary of the Northcote Returned Soldiers' Association, Mr. E. J. Norris, advised that 125 p poppies would be available for sale at Northcote. Mrs. I. W. Muirhead was thanked for the donation of au original etching, "The Homeward Bound Brig," by W. L. Wyllic, to supplement the proceeds in July from the bring-and-buy stall to provide Christmas comforts for returned soldiers in mental hospitals. Members stood in silence as a tribute to the memory of the late Mrs. B. D. Jeffery, who had been an active member of the league during its existence, and also in sympathy with Mrs. J. B. Tonar, a former Mayoress of Northcote, on the death of her mother, Mrs. Louisa Bastard, widow of Mr. S. Bastard. The convener of the Northcote Auxiliary of the Wilson Home for Crippled Children, Mrs. Archie Campbell, reported the gift of Mrs. N. E. Heath, through the local organisation, of a portable gramophone and records, which was particularly needed for physical exercises. Letters of thanks are to be sent to Mr. R. D. Kelly, the headmaster, and Miss L. Muller, teacher of the Northcote primary school, for the very sympathetic treatment given to a crippled child. Mesdames C. H. Colegrave and A. Campbell reported that nothing had been finalised regarding the proposed rest home for women and children at Putaruru, further details being awaited. On the motion of the patron, Mrs. D. P. O'Leary, it was unanimously resolved to urge the Prime. Minister, the Right Hon. M. J. Savage, to proceed immediately with the erection of a bridge across the Waitemata harbour in view of the tragic deaths at the Devonport vehicular landing last Tuesday night.
