/ EAST COAST GATHERING.
THREE BISHOPS TO ATTEND.

GISBORNE, this day.
The Maori synod, which will open at Whangara, 16 miles north of Gisborne to-morrow, will be attended by the Bishop of Waiapu, the Right Rev. G. V. Gerard; the Bishop of Aotearoa, the Right Rev. P. A. Bennett, and Archbishop Averill. The Archbishop will be accompanied from Auckland by Archdeacon Hawkins.
A hui is to be conducted in conjunction with the -synod. To-morrow evening several Maori choirs will compete for a number of trophies, and on Thursday the new carved meeting house at Whangara will be opened.
