MOTOR CYCLING.
CANTERBURY GRAND PRIX. BROTHERS FIRST AND SECOND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) , CHRISTCHURCH, Monday^ The fourth Grand Prix organised by the Canterbury Auto Cycle Club was held at Cust to-day in perfect weather. A crowd of 12,000 watched the race. The first four places were filled by Christchurch riders. The brothers W. Alexander and R. Alexander filled first and second places, M. Wear was third and T. Torrens fourth. The Auckland rider, L. Perry, who led easily until the 17th lap, had a puncture and retired. The Dunedin riders, B. Rosson and G. Haggit, raced particularly well, but both retired with engine trouble. The course was 152J miles of 25 laps of six and one-tenth miles each, over undulating and difficult roads. The race was slower than last year because of the state of some corners, but the winner completed the course in 2h 23m 355. The fastest lap time was 5m lis put up by A. Clarkson of Auckland. Thirtyseven started and 10 finished.
