VARSITY TOURNAMENT SOUTHERNERS WIN ATHLETICS AUCKLAND IS THIRD. (By Association.) DUNEDIST, Monday. The New Zealand inter-university annual sports were continued to-day. Otago easily won the athletic shield, scoring 22 points to Victoria's 14, Auckland's 11 and Canterbury's 9. The basketball shield went to "Victoria. Auckland won two matches and Otago one, Canterbury being outclassed in all three games. The tennis championships were advanced a further stage, the men's and combined doubles being advanced to the final stages and the ladies' doubles to the semi-finals. Adding the athletie and boxing shields to its list of successes Otago Universityplaced itself in an almost unassailable position for the New Zealand interuniversity tournament shield to-day. The shield points to date are:—Otago 29%, Wellington (Victoria College) 15, Auckland 9, Canterbury 6V*. Maxwell (Canterbury) outiH'inted R. Greaves (Otago). Lightweight.—H. Skelly (Otago) defeated A. McClew (Auckland) on points. Welter-weight.—G. McFndzlen (Otago) outpointed H. Willis (Auckland). Middle-weight.—P. H. Ryan (Victoria) bent T. H. E. Cornish (Otago) on points. Light heavy-weight.—M. Andrew (Otago) scored on points over C. D. Dobson (Canterbury ). Heavy-weight.—H. J. McLaren (Victoria) beat C. Mack (Otago) on points.
