EASTER SOCIAL.

COUNTIES' ASSOCIATION. OLD CUSTOMS REVIVED. The Cumberland and Westmoreland Association's monthly mooting, hold recently, took the form of an Easter social. Members and friends were received in the Club Rooms, Chancery Chambers, by the president, Mr. K. Parkinson. Before commencing proceedings, Mr. Parkinson referred to the passing of two mei«l>ers in the past month. Mrs. 1. Little, founder of the Auckland branch of the association, and Mrs. K. Byerts, and as a mark of respect the gathering stood in silence. Three new members were welcomed. Sir. and Mrs. T. Brigham, formerly of Workington and Cockermouth respectively, and Mr. W. Starkie, also of Cockermouth. The programme consisted of dancing, cards, items and games, artists beim; Mrs. W. Nelson and .Mr. .1. Harpwood, Mr. T. (iravesoii and Mr. I\ Cowper. An old county custom, a coloured pasche egg competition, was judged for the best dyed egg, and many and varied wore the entries, the prize linally ;>oin;r to Miss Lorna Doherty. Following the judging the eggs were "dumped" (knocked together to lind the hardest boiled). Two Easter prizes in the form of big chocolate eggs wore presented by Sirs. Kothery and Mr. Parkinson, and won by Mr. T. Graveson and Mr. May. LABOUR PARTY. NEW LYNN DANCE. The syeiai committee of the New Lynn branch of the Labour party held a successful dance in St. Andrew's Hall. Xew Lynn. The committee of helpers were: Mcsdamcs Allen, Sewell. Brechelt and If. Brown (lion, secretary), Messrs. Pyle, Maunder, Sewell, Brechelt. The duties of master of ceremonies were carried out by Mr. L. Cecil. W.C.T.U. Mt. Eden:—The April meeting, presided over by .Mrs. Hrocklehurst, was of special interest, as Mrs. Long of the l'apatoetoe branch was a visitor. She gave a report of the Dominion Convention recently held in Wellington. Four hundred and sixty six new meml>ers joined during last year, and good progress was reported in many departments of work.
