TROTTING.

FOUR SUCCESSSES.

AUCKLAND HORSES.

AT TARANAKI TROTS.

BLOMFIELD'S BRIGHT FUTURE,

The Auckland representation at the Taranaki Trotting Club's meeting on Saturday had an auspicious start, Loyal Betty scoring an end to end win in the opening event, the Fitzroy Handicap. She was always smoothly and won in good style at the finish, staying on better than others prominent in the running. Ke\vpie"s Bingen, another Aucklander, paced a solid race and had to cover more ground than the winner. He finished well, but could not reach the winner. Guy Whispers was always in the picture and followed Loyal Betty into the straight to finish a good third. Bingen's Beet was second for the greater part of the journey. Grand Dame was a shade unlucky in the straight, otherwise she might havs filled a place. The favourite, Great Blaze, was at no stage a possibility, and Excel broke up badly early in the race and was pulled up. Has Promising Future. . # A decidedly. promising young trotter was produced in Blomtield, winner of the VVaitura Handicap. He did not begin well, but had moved into third place alter half a mile had been covered and then went on to win in hollow fashion. He ran up to the pacemaker, Native Worry, along the back and when she broke three furlongs from hemic wax left well clear and was not afterwards extended. Native Worry, apart from her one break, trotted a tine race and beat the others just as easily as Bloinh'eld beat her. Barney Bingeii, who was always prominent, hung on for third. Frontier Boy was handy all the way without ever looking a winner. Aurumar ran a good race after a slow beginning. Not Extended. Hittiny the* front after going less than two furlongs, l'opeye was not troubled in the Urenui Handicap. He was always going comfortably and was not extended to win by two lengths. It was a stylish effort, jjrumcree, from 12yds behind, paced a sound race and was unlucky to meet one of the calibre of l'opeye. Marcus was i'opeye's closest attendant for the greater part of the journey, but failed to hold off Drumcree. Orleigh Mills was closer tit the finish than at any other stage. Hillcrest was a little unlucky, while Purina was not disgraced from her back mark. Ace High Trumps. Mdzaire was sent out a good favourite for tne laranaki Cup on tlie win machine, but was narrowly beaten in a tine finish by Ace High, who paid nearly double figures. This was a surprising price, considering his excellent form at Waugauui a weeK earlier. Ace High did not begin well, imt was capably handled .by Al. Edwards. He made up his ground gradually and, joining issue with Mazaire about inree furiongs irom home, stayed on too well for his rival in the straight. Mazaire mam.- a gallant atlempt to win all the way and was going so well halt a mile from home that he appeared likely to succeed, but was just outstayed. The Waikato-owned and trained Transwell was always close to Mazaire,, but failed to respond , -when the pace was on over the last half-mile, while Loyal Direct, another Xorthernei'l paced a sound race to be closer at the finish than at any other stage. Loyal Direct has a bright chance in the Hawera < ; ui> on Saturday. More Northern Wins. Backed down to favouritism on both machines, Hottentot gave his supporters little anxiety in the Moturoa Handicap. He ran to the front with half a mile coveced and was not afterwards headed. He turned for home weil clear and was

eacihig up at the cud. Artist's Gem was responsible for a good effort from her back mark, while Grand Dame finished in good style. Better handled, Parishioner would have been closer than fourth.

On the strength of Blonifield's easy win earlier in the day, he was installed a hot favourite in the inglewood Handicap, but three breaks on the journey were fatal to hie chances. Shirley's Pal, capably handled by M. Stewart, shot to the front three furlongs from home and, holding off a Btiff challenge from Black Native in the straight, won narrowly. Black Xative unproved greatly on his earlier showing and might have won but for a break a lew yards from the post. Frontier Boy trotted a solid race. Auckland horses finished the day with the line total of four successes. Popeye Again. Despite a penalty of 3(>yds for his win earlier in the day, l'opeye won the Omata Handicap with the greatest of ease. Berkett was content to lie about fifth most of the way, but as soon as he asked Popeye for an effort he quickly ran to the front to lead into the straight and go on to win by two lengths. Marcus, who was always one of the leaders, hung on for second from Purina, who did not finish as well as expected after making up her ground quickly. Roma Gill finished fast in fourth place after being hopelessly pocketed almost all the way. Marcus led through the straight from Reymeve, JJrumcree and Fisher and there was no change along the back except that Popeye and Purina had improved their positions. Popeye moved up fast on the outside when running out of the back to lead into the straight from Marcus, Purina and Drumcree. Going on strongly, Popeye won by two lengths from Marcus, with Purina a similar distance away, jiist in front of Roma Girl. Reception was fifth. One to Loyal Direct. Despite her failure in the Cup, Loyal Direct was sent out a good favourite on the win machine in the final event and justified the confidence reposed in her ■by winning decisively. Her driver was content to trail along behind Effie Parrish, for six furlongs, when he took Loyal Direct to the front. Efh'e Parrish drew up to her at the home turn, but it wae only on sufferance, and Loyal Direct had the race in safe keeping a furlong from the post. Effie Parrish paced a fine race, though she was no match for Loyal Direct. Baron Alfonso was the only one of the others to threaten danger, but he was comfortably beaten by the first two. Policy finished strongly in fourth .pla.ee and should soon win.
