THE PRESIDENT'S.
A GOOD FIELD.
TWENTY ACCEPTED FOR.
A GLANCE AT THE FORM
The President's Handicap, which forms thp opening event at the Auckland autumn meeting, which commences at Ellerslie on Saturday, h,is drawn a field of twenty, and it should produce a good finish.
Valamito, the tnp-weight, lias run some Rood races over the distance this season, and after his gallop at Takanini yesterday, he will have to lie considered. Earlier in the season he won (ho Alison Cup, run over a mile and a quarter, with 8.0, and the Xathans , Memorial Handicap, of similar distance. In the Takiipunn Cup, with 8.13 he was narrowly defeated by Do Friend and Malagigi, while he has other good placed efforts to his credit. He promises to keep the others busy. Master Brierly has run one or two good races this season, his best performance recently being his success over a mile and a quarter at the le Aroha meeting in February, when he beat Hot Box, Scotland, Round Up, Llangollen. Vnlamito and Golden Sheila He won the President's Handicap last year with 8.0 on a holding track, which 'surprised, for he was up to that time thought to be a horse that preferred firm goinc. Galilee is engaged in the Easter Handicap as well as the President's Handicap. She ™.. hee -i. showing much better staying ability this season than prevously, for she won the Franklin Cup, one mile and a quarter. Te Hai was third in the Tauranga Cup, an event which Balinavar won.
They are not without prospects and appeal more than Kena. Entail was a winner over a mile and a quarter at Awapuni last month and looks as though he has struck hie right form, while Dβ Friend has failed to get into the money since scoring in the Takapuna Cup. Gay Rose won the Mataxnata Cup, one mile and a. quarter, in February, while Black Musk accounted for the Goldfields Cup at Thames and has been placed in other events. Jack Tar was placed at the same fixture over seven furlonge and Gay Rebel won the Waikato Hack Cup, run over ten furlongs, and was third in the Franklin Cup. Knight of Australia ran third in the Presidents Handicap at Ellerslie laet Easter, and his best performance this season was in running second to Valamito in the Alison Cup at Ellerslie. Of the others^;- Sergia seems to-be the best. Some who may be in demand just now are: Valamito, Balinavar, Entail, Galilee and Gay Rebel.
