FOR WORTHY EFFORT. i AUCKLAND'S CENTENARY. DATES FOR LOCAL GALAS. Appreciation of the excellent and enthusiastic work done by the various provincial zone groups to shape up the arrangements for Auckland Province's eclebration in a worthy manner of the forthcoming Xew Zealand centennial; was voiced by Mr. I. n. Goldstine, and was warmly endorsed by the chairman, Sir Ernest Davis, and other members at. a meeting last night of the Auckland Centennial Council Provincial Executive. The chairman, reporting on provincial activities, said that from advice received by him he was satisfied that the manner in which the centennial was to be celebrated in this part of the Dominion would write a fresh chapter in the history of commemorative endeavour. He had been gratified with the progress made by the eight zones into which the province was divided and by the fact that public-spirited men in each district had entered wholeheartedly into the scheme. A jrreat advancement had been made by agreement in the reconciliation of dates which would ensure throughout the province in Centennial year a coordinated schedule of dates, which the meeting might recommend to the National Council for approval. As a consequence all the zoned areas were now free to push ahead with their respective programmes, and future activities of the provincial council would be confined to consideration of applications for approval of memorials, and, later on, to applications for actual subsidy payments. Tn regard to the proposal for the beautification of the main highway between Auckland and Rotorua. endorsed at last meeting, response had been received from all but seven of the 2ft local authorities concerned, added the chairman. After discussion, the meeting decided to invite a definite response from the seven bodies concerned before taking the proposal before the Main Hidiwavs Poard.
