MIGRANTS TO AUSTRALIA.
Prominence Was given last year to the Australian Government's, decision to permit the eniig-ration to the Commonwealth of about 15,000 European refugees in three years. Now cornea the report tJfciat nearly 6000 British migrants have been nominated for assisted passages, principally to New South Walefc and Victoria, sinee. fclie assisted migration scheme was revived. Considered in relation to Australia's size and population, ,thes« figures are perhaps not impressive, but they /should allay the apprehension that ■when a*t long last the Dominions are ready and willing to receive immigrants suitable immigrants will not be available. It 'is probable, indeed, that the continuing state of uncertainty and trepidation common in all European countries, including the United Kingdom, is causing more and more people to turn their thoughts to the idea of seeking the relatively greater security of life in the Dominions. This Dominion, launched on a policy of fostering secondary industries, should not lose 'the opportunity of helping the emigration of classes of people whose special skill and general industrial background would be of immediate and continuing value.
