BEFORE MUNICH.
! " HITLER POISONED." Incredible Story Published In . New Book. "DOUBLE" CARRYING ON. Independent Cable Service. (Received 11 a.m.) XEW \OI\K, March 3. A sensational anonymous book published to day by Macaulav and Company declared that Herr Hitler was murdered 011 the eve of the historic Munich Conference and that his "double*' has been impersonating the Fuehrer ever since. The book is entitled, "The Strange Death of Adolf Hitler," and says that Hitler ate a poisoned omelet on September 28. The story is not signed, but the publishers in a foreword, says it is a translation of a manuscript smuggled out of Germany written by Maximilian Bauer, who allegedly has an amazing resemblance to Herr Hitler. At the beginning of January it was j reported from London that one of the ten doubles employed by Herr Hitler to pose in his place on occasions likely to be dangerous to the German leader had committed a grave error which revealed his secret. Dressed in Herr Hitlei's familiar brown tunic, with his tooth-brush moustache, a man entered the famous Vier Jahreszeiten Cafe. Munich, surrounded by high officials of the Munich Brown House, general headquarters of Nazi-ism. Word went round that the Fuehrer was in the cafe, and crowds gathered outside to catch a glimpse ot him. During the meal which "Hitler" ordered, however, it was noticed that he ate some Bratwurste sausages. Herr Hitler is a vegetarian. Strict orders, it is understood, then went out to the ten official "doubles" that they must study the habits and mannerisms of the leader to the minutest detail, under penalty of severe punishment.
