MAORI FARMERS.
NGARUAWAHIA PLAN.
MORE STABLE FOOTING. PREPARING 400-ACRE BLOCK. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. Excellent progress is being made in the efforts of Princess Tc Puea Herangi, of Ngaruawahia, in placing the Maori people in the Waikato on a more stable Sconomic footing. In furtherance of her efforts she has acquired nearly 400 acres of farming land near the pa and at present 50 native men and women are working the property, which it is intended to pay off at the rate of £900 annually. The Maoris have been farming the land since September and much preliminary work is completed. Dwellings with every amenity have been erected by the Maoris, who receive no wages, preferring to put the revenue into the fund to pay oil the liability. The only expenses incurred are for food. At present the men are engaged in building a modern six-bail milking shed. Once the Maoris have established themselves and the land' is producing at a normal rate other means of raising money will be taken.
