FREAK STORM.

Lightning Brings Down Barrage Balloons. TEMPORARY FLOODING. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, February 20. A solitary lightning flash during a thunderstorm, struck a winch, ran up a steel cable and brought down in flames one of six balloons of Stanmore. The barrage balloon fell on top of a hangar damaging it, but nobody was injured. Another balloon similarly came down aflame between Cliigwell and Buckhursts Hill. Lightning ignited a building under construction at Hendon. It was a freak storm, following 10 minutes of darkness and caused temporary floods.
